Membership Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order at
The secretary’s report was given by Sue Lindsay, and accepted by
the membership. The report is available at the K9Xpress website and at the
membership meeting.
The treasurer’s report was given by Tricia Hastings. Financials
are available for the time period April through July 2005.
Shari Kolding reported that the new beginner
class starts
The members attending unanimously voted to accept the membership
applications for John Kimbrough, Diana Kimbrough, and Diana Gregory.
The following nominations for board members were voted on, and elected to office for the upcoming year:

The members present expressed their appreciation for the board members’ service for the past year.
The next meeting,
The electricity has been installed in the shed at the field, and the new light pole has been installed. There is now a refrigerator in the shed, with soda and water available for purchase.
The bids on the carport style structures to replace the current frames and canopies are were reported by Tricia Hastings as follows:
Two structures 11 x 22 ft, $7508.00 plus tax, installed.
Two structures, one 11 x 22 ft and one 11 x 40 ft, 10,184.00 plus tax , installed.
Installation includes electrical outlets, and fans that we purchase and provide will be installed in the ceilings.
Suzanne Antonowich moved, and Wade Pelton seconded, the motion to contract for the large and
small structures, at a cost of $10,184.00 plus tax, to be installed at the
K9Xpress field where the current canopies are located. The members present
voted to approve of this purchase, with Valerie Crawford dissenting. Tricia
Hastings will check with our insurance provider to determine what if any cost
will be associated with insuring these structures against damage.
John Hemphill reported that the AKC Labor Day Trial went very well. The trial accepted 330 entries per day, up from 300 entries, and the trial was full on Saturday and Sunday. Monday had fewer entries to ensure that the trial ended at a reasonable time. The final net figure for the weekend trial was $9,400.00. John Hemphill also reported that he would like new leadership for future AKC trials. He said that he would be happy to consult and help with the trial in the future. The AKC Trial Chair is open at this time, and the members will be notified that we are seeking bids for this position.
Tricia Hastings will notify Triple Crown Dog Academy that we will
retain Labor Day weekend for our trial. It was determined that until there was
a better option, we would continue to retain the current weekend dates and
location.
Donations were taken at the AKC trial for Hurricane Katrina relief, with 75 percent to be donated to Noah’s Wish, and 25 percent to be donated to a local animal shelter or relief organization. Wade Pelton moved, and Mindy Vescovo seconded the motion, to have the 25 percent donation given to the Austin Humane Society. The members present voted in agreement.
As a second matter, the board voted earlier to make an additional club donation, at a preliminary figure of 250.00, to an animal welfare organization directly involved in hurricane relief efforts. Valerie Crawford moved to double the figure (to 500.00) and make a donation to the Austin Humane Society, and Tricia Hastings seconded the motion. Kim Galusha moved to make the donation in the amount of 1000.00, seconded by Shari Kolding. After more discussion Kim Galusha amended the motion, seconded by Jaime Davis, to make a donation in the amount of 500.00 each (suggested by Mindy Vescovo) to three organizations: The Humane Society in Austin Texas, Noah’s Wish, and Pasado’s Safe Haven, which are all directly involved in the rescue efforts following Hurricane Katrina, and the preparations for Hurricane Rita, expected to affect Texas this coming weekend. The members present voted to approve of these donations.
Pat Morton suggested that we arrange for Nadine Schramm to present her
Young Dog Seminar to the K9Xpress membership this fall. Pat reported that she
has done some preliminary contact with Ms. Schramm, and a 2 day seminar for
puppies and young dogs would cost $480.00 plus expenses. Pat also had some
information handouts on Schramm and the seminar, which she passed out to the
members present. The members present voted to have Pat Morton check on Nadine Schramm’s
availability for this fall. If the seminar is to be held at the K9Xpress field,
a rain date would be necessary as well.
The meeting was adjourned at
